Ken Lockwood Gorge has been called one of the most beautiful spots in NJ. Anyone who has explored this 2.5 mile section of the South Branch of the Raritan River would agree.  The “gorge” makes up a part of the 498 acre Ken Lockwood Wildlife Management Area located between High Bridge and Califon in Hunterdon County.

Founded in 1948, the State of New Jersey named the area after Kenneth Lockwood, a journalist who had a weekly radio show and an outdoor column in the Newark Evening News. Lockwood was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist who was an advocate of conserving woodlands for hunting, fishing, and to pursue outdoor activities.

Ken Lockwood Gorge is an extremely popular location for fishermen and hikers along with many other outdoor enthusiasts. During the opening of trout season (as well as all summer long) it is extremely difficult to find a parking place.  This location is a “must see” among New Jersey protected lands.
